A NOTE FROM YOUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
PASTOR TRANSFER
There have been eight pastors at Ss. Peter and Paul Parish.
Rev. Joseph Patterson 1930-1934 Rev. Msgr. Edward C. Carscallen 1986-1994
Most Rev. James P. Davis 1934-1937 Rev. Msgr. Van A. Wagner 1994-1999
Most Rev. Francis J. Green 1937-1960 Rev. Msgr. John P. Lyons 1999-2010
Rev. Msgr. Arthur F. Gramer 1960-1986 Rev. Patrick M. Crino 2010-2021
I have been struggling to decide how to tell you there will be a ninth. In March, I will become pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Tucson. Bishop Edward Weisenburger will send the new pastor to you at the same time. I will let you know who he is, as soon as I hear. Although Bishop is already considering a priest who would be a good fit here, he will open the parish to applicants. Then, he will meet with the placement board for their advice. As soon as this process is complete, Bishop will make his announcement.
There are a few months before it is time to say, “goodbye,” but I would like to share some of my feelings. It has been a blessing for me to serve here. I am comfortable and happy. My friends are here. I enjoy the wonderful collaboration in ministry with dedicated parishioners, deacons, sisters, board & council members, principal & faculty, and staff & priests. Thank you.
It has been a privilege to be included in the rank of SSPP pastors. I have personally known five of my predecessors. The parish stories from Bishop Green through Msgr. Lyons showed me what love for the people does to advance Christ’s mission. I hope that my prayer and work here has been fruitful.
Bishop will have me continue as Director of the Vocations Office and of Seminarians, CEO of the Priests Assurance Corporation, board member for CTSO, and such.
This is one of those times that I am reminded to trust in the Lord. As you and I follow the way the Lord leads, we will experience changes and challenges as new moments of grace.
K OF C FOUNDER BEATIFICATION
On Saturday, October 31, Fr. Michael J. McGivney will be beatified. This is a step toward being canonized a saint. Fr. McGivney founded Council #1 of the Knights of Columbus in 1882. Our parish council is #11855! We are the legacy of a holy parish priest who organized and inspired Catholic families to live the Faith in Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. The celebration and the his venerable history is available at www.kofc.org
ALL SAINTS & ALL SOULS
One final, but important note — Sunday and Monday, we celebrate All Saints Day and All Souls Day. Some of our brothers and sisters in Christ are canonized. But it is possible for us all to be saints. God created us to be holy, to be saints. So, we celebrate those in Heaven who have gone before us. We commit ourselves to lives of Christian love. And we pray that the Lord heal and perfect the souls in Purgatory.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Patrick M. Crino
